The Government is expected to introduce the new MSME Bill during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to address the long-standing issue of delayed payments to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The proposed legislation aims to improve payment discipline, strengthen cash flow and enhance the financial stability of MSMEs across India.
In another significant development, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) is considering a new framework that will redefine the role of Resolution Professionals (RPs). Under the proposal, RPs will oversee insolvency proceedings, regulatory compliance, lender coordination and the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP), while industry experts may be entrusted with managing the operational assets of distressed companies.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified the Cost Inflation Index (CII) for FY 2026-27 at 384, up from 376 in FY 2025-26. The revised index will be used to calculate the indexed cost of acquisition for long-term capital gains under the Income-tax Act, impacting capital gains tax computations for eligible assets.
